We chose the course ES- ES1-Sentence Structure for my DS8. It is a good fit for him as he is new to typing and still learning how to properly construct more complex sentences. I really enjoyed our use of this program. It uses short, fun lessons which my son really liked.
The only drawback I had found was for those younger children who are not yet able to type. In order to do the lessons you need to cut and paste the assignment into a word processing field which can be cumbersome. We found a simple solution to the issue by having my son dictate his answer to me and I typed it for him.
Help in choosing which class your child needs is available. Also, there is a 14 day period during which you may cancel. Switching to a different course that may be more appropriate is possible, if you find that the one you chose is not right for your child, before the 14 day period ends. The student works with a teacher throughout the course using the online tutorial to improve their writing. Teacher’s leave notes with the graded assignment to encourage the students progress and point out ways to improve.
The assignments are assessed on a rubric to allow the student to see their strengths and weaknesses. It is standards based and all work is done completely online from any computer accessed with a secure password login. All instructors are certified and send parents mid and end course reports.
Each course has the objectives for each lesson listed before you purchase. Each 8-week course is $99, and discounts are offered for multiple students or multiple courses (5/5% off, 10/10% off) by telephone enrollment only. You can sign up for a free writing newsletter without enrolling in a class.
“Once your session is completed, you will no longer have access to your account or records. You may contact support at info@Time4Writing.com to request a one week extension for record access or if you need more time to complete your course you may want to purchase a half course extension (four additional weeks) for $49.”
Company info:
Time4Writing is one of three major educational services provided by Vkidz Inc, a private Florida corporation. The other services are Vocabulary & SpellingCity.com and Time4Learning.com. The company was founded in 2004 and has an onsite staff of 20 people and another 20 off-site part-time employees.
My opinion is that this is a great tool for homeschoolers but the price may be a little expensive. I personally have spent 2 weeks with my son using it and we are over halfway finished. While he likes it and is learning I would not be willing to pay $99 a course. After all he is only 8, perhaps for the more involved bigger kids classes it is more feasible. I could see us using this in our own home if the price was closer to $49 a course for the younger student. It is, however, a good basic writing program.
