I have used the monthly calendar to divide the planner into sections. Each section has a sheet for books read and a journal sheet. We use workboxes and I have created a spreadsheet for each week so I can put in our assignments for every day of the week. I have 3 sheets for each week, 1 for each child’s individual workboxes and one for the things we work on together.
I have the first few pages as a sort of reference using the curriculum key chart, annual calendar, and attendance chart. I have a section for field trip planning and a few website and vendors logs. I have an additional section with all my TOS Crew stuff.
I fear this post is a bit of a scatter so maybe I’ll stop chattering and let you see some pictures instead!

Thanks everybody! I really loved the cover too it's from Elenor Hempel's Little Schoolhouse by Wonder Books which is based on a TV show from the 50's I believe.
This is my first official year of homeschooling. I have a 5 yr old, a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old. Do you still recommend the planner even for one Kindergartener and random preschool stuff???

Actually I do. Being that your kiddos are still young you could possibly get it and then use it for the rest of their school years it is really that flexible. It's over 600 pages in pdf and the homeschool forms are just one section. The entire first half is a monthly theme with articles, resources and recipes. You could use those to build around for your children and the forms can help you organize all those great ideas. Even if you use a packaged curriculum I still love the extra resources in it. There is a section specific to preschool but also homemaking, chores, cooking, etc. I know I sound like an advertisement but it really is so great to have. There is just so much in it.

Gina-I hope that was some help. It looks as though until Aug. 15 there is 12 freebies included. If they are the monthly modules from last year then that is spectacular (unit studies for each month).

Thanks so much for sharing how you plan for your children's lessons. The photos of your planning pages are very helpful. I have one question though: the course of study page you shared has a glare over the "Fine Arts" section. Can you tell me what you list in that title besides "appreciation"? Wow, reading your blog today on a email from The Old Schoolhouse was inspiring. I have been planning our school year for nearly a month now. This is my 1st year homeschooling my twin girls that are 10 years old and my eight year old son. My husband is also in the military and we have ADHD and ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) in our family as well. We have actually started some subjects but I have offically decided to take the next week and a half off for me to reevaluate my approach. I am not discouraged just overwhelmed.
I just read this article on the OSH email they send out and thought I would hop over and see your blog.

I am close to being finished with my plans and purchases. We started our new school year two days ago. The children are really excited. We launched our first day with a fun and very well done Unit Study of Airplanes from Hands Of A Child and some science activities and craft activities. We built marble runs and gooy green slime too.
We have five kids and are schooling grades 4, 2, k, and pre-k, and a toddler. We are using several great resources this year that are new to us. I will write more about them on our blog soon and share photos. Check out what we are up to at Weiser Academy. http://www.weiseracademy.com
Planning is very important, and really helps me to see the overall picture of our school progress. But I am always flexible to listen to what plans the Lord wants for my day and my plans are always subject to change. I am looking forward to a great school year this year filled with lots of learning adventures and fun with my kids.

I saw your post on an e-mail from OSH. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I love the cover of your planner!! I have toyed with the idea of getting the School House Planner, I think I may do it. I also want to explore workboxes. The idea seems like it would make your day go so smoothly, instead of having them constantly ask what is next.

Tara-Last year was my first year too and it does get easier once you get an idea of how you want things to go. Try to just take it a week at a time. I did that last year during our rough patch when we found out my 14y/o had diabetes and the subsequent hospitalization. It made a huge difference in how I coped. I think taking the time off is good because sometimes it just is too hard to see it all when you are in the middle of it kwim! What is your method/curriculum? I'd be happy to help if you need it!
Melinda Weiser-Sounds like you are having a grand time! I know all to well about being flexible, lol! Military, babies and disabilities have me constantly hopping around here :) I love HOAC! I loved your blog, I will have to copy down your recipes for cashew cookies, yummy!
Angela-Yes they work well. I was doing a binder before which I will add back in for this year but the actual lessons will be in the box and then after being graded go into the binder, we use MFW.
