As a mother I am always aware of the dangers of the internet for my children. I know most of the things my children view are innocent enough but with social media becoming so prevalent in our society it is nearly impossible to keep everything clean. Our family sets rules that keep our children off the internet until they are of an age where they can self monitor what is appropriate and not. We train them in Biblical principles so they know what constitutes sin in this area. Even this vigilance is not going to always keep them safe from everything, however. Action Alert internet safety is one way to keep a constant watch over our children.
Action Alert is a downloadable software program that keeps track of access and sends alerts to your cellphone and/or computer when your programmed device gains access to a user selected list of keywords, websites, and more. This allows you to remotely shut down the computer whenever suspicious activity occurs. The software is 8 tools in 1 and comes in either a free version or a single subscription price.
I really liked this software, it provides a safe search page you can set for your homepage. This is nice because then my children can’t see all the awful news stories that pop up on other sites. The initial set up can be a little time consuming but it is fairly easy. I love that not only can I be alerted remotely but that I can shut it down too. The best thing however is that I can watch a replay of what programs and sites have been used. The Action viewer plays back up to 60 hours of everything done on the programmed device, so you have record. This really helps if you have children prone to fibbing.
