TOS Review–Math Rider
The most important thing a child needs in math is a good foundation in basic arithmetic. This is also one of the biggest stumbling blocks for most children. Simply put they do not have the math facts memorized. Say all you want about the drudgery of rote memorization, the point is without it your child will not become math brained without it. Why do some children seem to just fly through advanced math concepts? They have the small pieces of information needed to solve those big problems memorized so they do not even need to stop and think about it.
I know, it’s a chore to do, memorizing is tough. Today I want to tell you about a computer program that takes the pain out of that chore. MathRider is a fact drilling program that is set up to take into account typing speed. I know of no other program that does this. Because of this simple feature you can use it with all age levels, even the young ones not proficient with keyboarding skills.
My boys really liked this as it has a very Lord of the Rings adventure feel to it. You have a quest to complete and by correctly answering the problems, which are set up as hurdles poles to jump, you gain points which advance you on your adventure.
You and your horse, Shadow, travel through the mysterious Mathlands at your own pace, slowing down as needed or speeding up as you fly through the problems. The only thing my boys were turned off by was the inability to work on more than one type of fact at a time. So if they started with addition then they had to finish that quest before beginning subtraction or all the work on the quest would be lost.
MathRider is very affordable and we will be using this for our children. I really recommend this to any family as it incorporates visual, auditory, and hands on learning styles. Even if you have a math whiz they will enjoy this program because it is just so fun. Oh and the music is great, all my kids loved it! I found it very catchy and wound up dancing around the house with my 2 year old many times.

Wow, my family's experience was quite different. We were rather disappointed with this one. Glad to hear that it is working so well for you.
Oh bummer Tess, I haven't read you review yet but I am going to right now.
