Homeschooling does not have to break the bank

I have been trying to find ways for my family to homeschool relatively cheaply. We used a free program last year called Ambleside Online and it was wonderful. This year I needed to have things planned out for me since I had a tot so we went with My Father’s World. It was well worth the added expense.

There are many families who struggle with the idea of homeschooling their children. They believe it will be too expensive, but that is because they just do not know what is available. You just have to look in the right places. My dear friend Heather has created a blog solely dedicated to free (or nearly so) homeschool materials, Homeschool-For-Free.

She has also discussed this topic at length on her family blog, Blessing Farm, where you can find a step by step guide to homeschooling for free. There are more than 20 ways to make homeschooling affordable for your family.

Please stop by and visit Heather and say hello, tell her I sent you. She did such a wonderful job putting together the awesome free site that I feel kind of lazy over here.

I find that I do a better job when I keep it simple. The more I add to our schedule the less of the good stuff we do.

There is a free curriculum site called An Old Fashioned Education that has schedules worked out. I used it last year and it was pretty good. Oh, and the resources she uses are mostly free!

Briana,
OFE and Ambleside Online are pretty similar. I just got an email today from someone selling bound copies of each book in Ambleside Online's curriculum. They have a warranty and free book replacement for wear and tear which sounds good but each book is very expensive. I choked when I saw how much but I am glad that there is someplaces to get the physical books again.

Stopping by from workboxes:) Going to head over to Heather as I love free homeschooling resources. I have never bought a boxed curriculum I always use free off the web.
